Northern Attack Volleyball Club
Frequently Asked Questions
To help families better understand Northern Attack Volleyball Club, here are some of the most frequently asked questions about our club:
-
Northern Attack Volleyball Club is a nonprofit organization established to help female athletes grow their volleyball skills and their love of the game. We provide quality volleyball instruction, team-building opportunities, and competitive tournament experiences designed to help athletes develop both on and off the court.
We are proud to serve many multi-sport athletes and families looking for a competitive club volleyball experience that balances skill development, reasonable costs, regional competition, and family life. Our coaches are passionate about the game and committed to helping athletes grow into confident, successful young women.
-
Tryouts are held each fall. Team offerings vary from year to year based on the number of athletes trying out, age groups, positions needed, and available coaches.
Team selections are based on several factors, including:
Volleyball skill and potential
Positional needs
Work ethic and coachability
Effort and competitiveness
Positive attitude and team fit
There will be cuts. Club volleyball is competitive, and unfortunately we cannot offer a roster position to every athlete who tries out.
When an athlete is offered a position on a team, coaches generally have a role or position in mind for her. However, athletes are expected to remain flexible and willing to play where needed based on the needs of the team.
-
The Northern Attack season generally runs from late November through May or June, or shorter depending on the age group and team.
Practices are primarily held once per week on Sunday afternoons unless the team is competing in a tournament. Coaches may occasionally schedule an additional weeknight practice when appropriate.
Tournament schedules vary by team and age level. Most tournaments are one or two days and are held on Saturdays and/or Sundays. Tournament days often begin early in the morning and continue into the afternoon or evening.
Exact practice dates, tournament schedules, and season length will be communicated for each team.
-
Club fees vary by age group and team based on tournament schedules and other team-specific costs.
Northern Attack works intentionally to keep fees reasonable and significantly lower than many larger club programs. We believe competitive volleyball opportunities should remain accessible to families while still providing quality coaching and tournament experiences.
Exact fees have been communicated before tryouts on social media so families can make an informed decision before accepting a roster position.
Club fees do not include personal travel expenses such as:
Hotels
Transportation
Meals
Northern Attack does not typically require entire teams to stay at the same hotel or eat together during tournaments unless specifically communicated for a particular event.
If your daughter is offered a roster position and financial circumstances may prevent her from accepting, please contact the club directors before declining the position. We encourage families to communicate with us.
We will offer Serve-A-Thon fundraiser that your player can choose to be a part of and raise money towards her fee costs!
-
Previous participation does not guarantee placement on a future team. Rosters and team needs change every year. Returning athletes must continue to demonstrate the skills, effort, attitude, and commitment needed to earn a roster position.
-
Absolutely! We strongly encourage athletes to try again.
Players can grow tremendously in strength, height, skill, confidence, and volleyball knowledge from one year to the next. Not making a team one season does not mean you will not earn a spot in the future.
-
Accepting a position on a Northern Attack team is a commitment.
Roster spots are limited, and accepting a position means another athlete may not receive that opportunity. Players are expected to make their team a priority by attending practices and tournaments, communicating appropriately, working hard, and being a positive teammate.
We proudly welcome multi-sport athletes. However, families should carefully consider potential conflicts before accepting a roster position. If another sport or activity will result in numerous missed practices or tournaments, please consider whether club volleyball is realistic for your athlete that season.
We understand that illness, injury, family emergencies, school obligations, and other unavoidable circumstances occur. Communication with your coach is essential.
Because we generally practice only once per week, consistent attendance is especially important. Excessive or unexcused absences may affect playing time and, in serious situations, may result in removal from the team without a refund.
If an athlete voluntarily quits during the season, no refund will be issued. Any club-owned equipment or uniform items must be returned if requested so the club can appropriately fill the roster position.
-
No. Playing time is not guaranteed and is determined by the coaching staff. However, teams are kept small to promote play time.
Coaches consider many factors when making playing-time decisions, including:
Attendance
Effort and work ethic
Skill and performance
Position and team needs
Attitude and coachability
Contribution to the team
Club volleyball is competitive. Equal playing time should not be expected, particularly in competitive tournament situations. Volleyball is a game of specific positions and role that make up the team and thus playing time is automatically not equal.
Athletes who consistently attend practice, work hard, maintain a positive attitude, and contribute to the team put themselves in the best position to earn opportunities on the court.
-
Parents/guardians are responsible for arranging transportation for their athlete to and from all practices and tournaments.
-
Due to the financial commitments Northern Attack makes when forming teams—including tournament registrations, memberships, uniforms/apparel, and other expenses—club fees are generally nonrefundable once a roster position has been accepted.
Refunds will not be provided because of:
Scheduling conflicts
Team or coaching assignments
Playing-time concerns
An athlete choosing to leave the team
Prorated refunds may be considered on a case-by-case basis for an athlete who suffers a documented season-ending injury while participating with Northern Attack. A physician’s letter may be required.
Injuries occurring outside of Northern Attack Volleyball activities generally will not qualify for a refund.
-
Northern Attack maintains club membership with JVA (Junior Volleyball Association).
Depending on tournament schedules and individual team needs, some teams may also require USAV and/or AAU memberships.
Coaches and assistant coaches are required to complete applicable abuse-prevention/safe-sport training and background screening requirements in accordance with the organizations under which their teams compete.
